If you are installing this on a new system, there isn’t much to do to prepare the system for installation. If you are replacing a CPU cooler, make sure to clean the old thermal paste off the CPU.

There are eight total for Intel systems, the difference is the length of one side of the screws. No matter the CPU, you’ll need the four screw caps, and finally the four mounting screws. The support bracket will fit both Intel and AMD systems simply by sliding the corner brackets. Getting the right mounting hardware together is pretty easy as Corsair does a great job with showing every step in the installation guide.

The two 120mm fans are attached to the radiator, and thankfully that’s all that’s needed to install this on an Intel based system. TL :DR: It gets outperformed by i3 processors from a few years ago in some games: Nevermind an i7 6700k.Before doing the actual installation, I wanted to see exactly how the cooler looks when put together. The i7 6700 has 57% better single-threaded performance and over 12% better multithreaded performance than an FX 9590 (which is more powerful than the one above anyway). The i7 6700 is more powerful (benchmarks: ), uses much fewer W, and could be sufficiently cooled by the small, cheap cooler that it comes boxed with. They use so much electricity and generate so much heat that PC Specialist won't even let you buy a PC with one in it without a £79 liquid cooler. It is cheaper than the current build and also has a more balanced spec. Honestly though, you really are better off with the define x1. You can always get an external blu-ray drive if you need it. (Personally only ever used DVDs and they are all I will ever need). If you aren't going with the define x1, which many people would recommend due to the discount + overall performance, then you can also save money on the blu-ray drive, unless you plan on running/writing blu-rays. With roughly a £1700 budget you should really be aiming for an intel skylake with a 1080. AMD processors also tend to get very hot, which means they don't tend to perform as well as they are depicted to. The AMD processor won't perform as well as an intel skylake, even if it appears to have a higher clock speed and more cores. DDR4 RAM is also better than DDR3 due to the increased frequency which isn't available in DDR3. It's also worth getting higher frequency RAM as it can get better performance in certain games.

16GB should be more than enough for the upcoming years, 8GB will run pretty much everything at the moment.
